One of the best known types of cloths from Africa are the bogolanfini, which translates as mud cloths from Mali. Made by Bamana women… they are decorated with geometric patterns in white on a dark brown background. Bogolanfini were traditionally worn by hunters and women. They are protective cloths, keeping away evil spirits who are meant to be confused by the meandering patterns of the close weave and unable to penetrate through the cloth. The bogolanfini originated in the 1970s in a region near the Malian capital of Bamako. Size: 34 1/2 x 53" Would be awesome as a wall hanging or perhaps as pillows. There are many patterns that have different meanings. The pattern on this piece depicts wealth and luxury. The color is very dark brown almost Black.
